SDG 4: Quality Education

Overview

Mapúa University is committed to advancing SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for learners within and beyond the University. Through public educational events, lifelong learning programs, community outreach initiatives, non-degree and vocational training opportunities, digital learning resources, and institutional policies supporting inclusive access to education, the University extends knowledge and skills development to students, educators, professionals, alternative learners, and local communities. These initiatives strengthen educational accessibility, support lifelong learning, and contribute to the development of a more knowledgeable, skilled, and empowered society.

Lifelong Learning Measures

Mapúa University demonstrates its commitment to lifelong learning by providing a wide range of educational opportunities, training programs, educational outreach initiatives, and free learning resources that are accessible to the general public.

Educational Outreach Activities

Mapúa University undertakes educational outreach activities beyond campus, extending learning opportunities to local schools and communities. Through the Senior High School Immersion Program in User Interface Design, students participated in hands-on learning experiences that applied classroom knowledge to real-world community projects, enabling them to develop technical skills while contributing to the improvement of web-based platforms. The program promoted experiential learning, community engagement, and social responsibility while supporting SDG 4: Quality Education.

The University also encourages voluntary student-run educational schemes through the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Reading Program. During the 1st and 2nd Trimesters of AY 2024–2025, Mapúa student volunteers conducted reading assessments and tutorial sessions in local elementary schools, including Bagong Barangay Elementary School, Beta Elementary School, and Jacinto Zamora Elementary School in Pandacan, Manila. The program aimed to strengthen reading comprehension and English-language proficiency among elementary learners while fostering civic engagement among students.

Public Lectures and Community Educational Events

Mapúa University regularly hosts events that are open to the public, including lectures, webinars, and community educational activities. Through the Mapúa iLIFT Free Webinar Series, the University conducted multiple free public webinars from August 2024 to July 2025 for educators, professionals, students, and community members. Additionally, the Senior High School Department organized the webinar “Enhancing Research Efficiency with Excel: Tools, Techniques and Best Practices,” which was open to professionals, researchers, educators, and students from various sectors. These initiatives demonstrate the University’s commitment to making knowledge and expertise accessible beyond its enrolled student population.

Mapúa University provides public access to educational events through its lifelong learning initiatives, community outreach programs, and free webinar series. Through iLIFT, the university conducts free webinars explicitly open to the general public regardless of affiliation. The university further offers free in-house trainings, community lectures, onsite outreach education, and online learning activities for non‑Mapúans, demonstrating institutional commitment to lifelong learning and community education.

Non-Degree Educational and Vocational Learning Programs

Mapúa University provides educational programmes open to the general public, including short courses and professional training opportunities that are separate from degree programs. Through MapúaX Academies and Industry Micro-Credentials, the University offers short courses, micro-credential programs, and industry-based training in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, project management, Lean Six Sigma, additive manufacturing, analytics, and instructional design. These programs support working professionals and lifelong learners seeking to upskill or reskill without enrolling in a degree program.

The University also conducts community-based technical and entrepreneurship training, such as the Webinar on Automotive Technology with Business Start-up and Licensing Orientation, which provided free vocational and technical learning opportunities for community members, including residents of adopted communities.

Free Access to Educational Resources

Mapúa University provides free access to educational resources for individuals who are not enrolled at the University. Through the Dunong Lingkod platform managed by the Office for Social Orientation and Community Involvement Programs (SOCIP), the University offers free online learning resources, including micro-lecture videos, worksheets, learning modules, and assessment tools aligned with the Alternative Learning System (ALS) curriculum. These resources are freely accessible to alternative learners, out-of-school youth, teachers, and members of the wider community.

The University further promotes these resources in underserved communities through literacy and educational outreach initiatives in Apayao and Isabela. Complementing these efforts, Mapúa Snippets provides free English and Mathematics microlearning videos for elementary learners and partner public schools, supporting broader access to quality education beyond the University.

Public Access to Library Resources

Mapúa University promotes inclusive access to educational resources by welcoming external researchers and visitors to utilize its library facilities and collections. Through established access procedures, non-Mapúa users may consult library resources including computers and special collections, receive research assistance, and use designated reading and collection areas for academic and scholarly purposes.
