Mapúa Institute of Technology was established by Don Tomas Mapúa on January 20, 1925. It began as a night school offering Architecture and Civil Engineering, with 75 students and 15 teachers.

Mapúa produced its first licensed Civil Engineers, achieving a 92% passing rate—an early milestone in the institution’s tradition of professional excellence.

Oscar Mapúa Sr. assumes office as the second president of Mapúa.

The Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC) took over ownership of Mapúa in December 1999, marking a major transition in the institution’s history.

Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea assumed the presidency in January 2000, placing the strengthening of Mapúa’s academic programs at the center of the University’s direction.

ABET accreditation expanded to more engineering and computing programs, bringing Mapúa’s total to 13 accredited programs by the two ABET commissions.

CHED granted Mapúa university status on May 18, 2017. Mapúa Institute of Technology officially became Mapúa University. Helen Yuchengco Dee assumes office as the new chairperson of Mapúa University.

Mapúa Makati transfers to its new location at Pablo Ocampo Sr. Extension.

Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo assumed the role of President and CEO of Mapúa University, effective July 1, marking a new chapter in the University’s journey toward its centennial. Under his leadership, Mapúa introduced a renewed vision centered on global leadership in education, sustainable socio-economic growth, innovation, digital transformation, and lifelong education.

Mapúa Cardinals won their 4th NCAA basketball championship after 36 years.

Mapúa officially reached its 100th year, celebrating a century of education, innovation, research, and nation-building. Its centennial celebrations honored the past while looking toward the University’s next century.

Mapúa Education Group and Arizona State University (ASU) expanded their partnership to further globalize Philippine higher education. Building on their collaboration in business and health sciences, the expanded partnership brings together internationally benchmarked education, innovative learning, digital transformation, research, and global opportunities—opening new pathways for Mapúans to learn, innovate, and make an impact beyond borders.

Mapúa University continued its tradition of producing topnotchers in the August 2026 Sanitary Engineering Licensure Examination, with eight Mapúans earning spots among the country’s top-performing examinees.

Adding to this milestone, Mapúa University ranked No. 1 among the top-performing schools with a 96% passing rate.
