Mapúa University’s Earth Month Celebration, which ran from March 22, 2025 to April 22, 2025, was organized by the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) and featured a month-long series of events highlighting the university’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The seminar included in-person and online participation, underscoring collaborative sustainability education.

Key activities of the month-long celebration include:

  1. Earth Hour (March 22): Both the Intramuros and Makati campuses joined the global energy conservation movement by turning off lights. Students, staff, and alumni were encouraged to participate at home and share their activities online with the theme “Building a Sustainable Future: Our Power, Our Planet, Our Mapúa.”
  2. Sustainability Pledge Signing (March 24): The Mapúa community signed the SDG Pledge Board at both campuses, symbolizing a collective commitment to sustainability.
  3. Sustainability Seminar on Renewable Energy (March 31): The seminar featured lectures, including:
    1. Solid Waste Management in Cavite by Ms. Annabelle Cayabyab (SDGs 11 & 12).
    2. Offshore Wind Technology and Market Opportunities by Mr. Heiner Strauss of Reprocon GmBH (SDGs 7 & 9).
    3. Introduction of Mapúa’s new baccalaureate degree in Energy Engineering by Dr. Aldrin Calderon, the first of its kind in the Philippines (SDGs 4 & 7).
    4. Swap and Donate Challenge (April 22 – Earth Day): A fair that encouraged students and employees to trade or donate pre-loved items, promoting reuse, circular economy practices, and social responsibility through donations to a Mapúa-adopted community (SDG 12).

The celebration combined awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and hands-on sustainability practices, strengthening Mapúa’s role as a leader in promoting environmental responsibility and the SDGs.
