Indalecio C. Mascuñana Scholarship for Civil Engineers

Mr. Indalecio C. Mascuñana graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He passed the Board Exams for Civil Engineers in 1954 and was ranked 16th out of all the passing candidates that year. He worked for the City of Bacolod and the Bureau of Public Highways in Manila building bridges, sea walls and roads after graduating from Mapua. Mr. Mascuñana later received his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University in 1959 and then came back to the Philippines to work for the Progressive Development Corporation’s Araneta Coliseum.

As he was getting his degree at Cornell, he was given the opportunity to work on the AASHO Test Road which was the most comprehensive highway test project in US history. In 1963, his work on the Test Road allowed him to migrate to the US to work as a research engineer for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. He completed over 60 notable research projects during his 30 year career in the US. We hope that the Indalecio C. Mascunana Scholarship will allow Mapua Civil Engineering students to share in his vision for a better future.
