Mapúa has Launched DEI Program to Support Gender Equality and Inclusion

June 19, 2024 • Mapúa University

Mapúa University has taken a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive and supportive campus by officially launching its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Program. The initiative has been designed to strengthen the university’s commitment to building a culture of empathy, respect, and understanding.

According to Mr. Patrick Glenn O. Acorin, Mapúa’s DEI Officer, the program has formalized the many initiatives that schools, departments, offices, and student organizations have already started. These efforts have shown how deeply the Mapúa community values creating a space where everyone feels safe and respected.

Dr. Eva Callueng, the Dean of the College of Education of UE Manila, delivers the lecture in the hybrid seminar “To DEI is to Care” during the launch of Mapúa University’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program, on June 19, 2024.

The launch has coincided with the celebration of Pride Month. Held on June 19, 2024, the event featured the seminar “To DEI Is to Care,” with guest speaker Dr. Eva Callueng, Dean of the College of Education at UE Manila and a dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion.

Through this initiative, Mapúa has shown its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 5 and 10, which promote gender equality and the reduction of inequalities.

As Mr. Acorin has emphasized, “We have recognized that preparing our students for success in a global and multicultural world means making room for diverse voices and experiences. This not only enhances critical thinking but also helps create a campus where everyone can thrive.”

By launching the DEI Program, Mapúa has reaffirmed its commitment to shaping not just skilled graduates—but compassionate, open-minded individuals ready to make a difference.
